look they are a similar bloodline to pitbulls, obviously a lot smaller. they were bred for the same kind of purpose, hunting/baiting/fearless little bastards.
those little guys are super strong for their size and their jaw composition is similar to a pitbull/rottweiler, very powerful and "locks" into place.
training wise they seem to be easier to manage according to AKC and all those standards compared to a pitbull.
end of the day i would prefer one to a pitbull, due to size and placidness, factoring in trainability too. also need to remember that i did say if you have a well bred pitbull, one from a breeder who chooses companion dog over killer dog there should be no problems
