His complex analysis ("we require a much higher degree polynomial") rests on an assumption of Ceteris paribus.

The authors assumptions require much more rigorous audit and checking before acceptance. For example, a same depth comparative statistical analysis of the 2016 and 2012 data from the same 166 precincts is required.
As an aside, I found the descriptions of his data files interesting.
