The value of the aircraft if they did own them is significant.
There is a back log of orders for large passenger aircraft and they are in fact appreciating in value.
The market for these "aged" aircraft lies in the emerging economies of India and China, but Russian billionaires are happy to snatch them up at a premium.
As far as cancelling orders, these come from airlines destined to fail, the others are stagnating. QAN's $50b of aircraft purchases carries over a 20 year period. Could be scare tactics or a diversion on their behalf for other home based issues.
The aircraft represent a significant value.
