The point is well taken, we should cut down on energy use, we waste a lot.

Actually, as private consumers we DO NOT waste power. We use it, but why not? We live in the 21st century after all.

In the billing period ending Feb our household of four used about 500kWh/qtr each which equals 2 mWh/y each which our provider says is average for our suburb.

    But according to https://www.worlddata.info/australia/australia/energy-consumption.php

    ElectricitytotalAustralia
    per capita
    Compared to Europe
    per capita
    1Own consumption229.40 9,182.36 kWh5,518.12 kWh

So private consumption is roughly 20% of the total generation. It would be even less as a percentage of total energy use.

As I said, they are trying to make you feel guilty to control you.

Note: That data looks to have been compiled 4 years ago. That doesn't mean it would not be close today except that some industry has been shut down since because of high power costs.
