The building of new homes these days is second rate. They don't seem to seal the area between where the tiles sit on the roof and the valley's which leaves a gap where embers can blow in and then the whole house goes up. Colour bond roofing might be better I don't know.
When we had the fires here in Canberra some years back this was a problem ,I checked up in our roof after the fires and there was ash everywhere just lucky we were a fair distance away otherwise it could have been a different story.
