its more than recycling that needed.... years ago I used to buy "alginate" bags, a plastic made from algae, and others made from vegetable matter waste.

plastics need to shift away from petrochemicals altogether and use only materials that actually will break down (biodegrade) leaving no toxic of solid legacy.

there also needs to be a massive effort to collect the plastics floating around in the waterways, from mountain streams to estuaries and lakes and out into the oceans.
