hi lrjones there is an interesting discussion on your point at wretchard.com which is a security related blog, arguably the jihad fighters are being being bled dry in Iraq and cannot commit as many resources around the world, the counterargument is that Iraq is a rallying point which has caused more new recruits the cause than ever
the blog is worth a look anyway, interesting analysis of the 4 Navy SEALS in Afghanistan and the 16 elite troops who died when their helicopter was shot down trying to extract them
