I get the feeling that Mel may be a bit of a battler who may not used to asking for, or receiving help, so I suggest she may feel embarrassed from the funds over what she asked for.
In saying all that though I would like to encourage her to let it ride - those that are giving are happy to, and know full well that any extra over will certainly be put to good use irrespective for what it is used.
