Rather interesting. So farmers/ investor now have an equal price choice to keep it local or sell it forever. In 90 days MG is likely to have the OK on national interest grounds. I thought Saputo would have gone for a knockout blow. I don't think this will be resolved before MG gets it approval
Bega is a great company but the thought of it gaining WCB and then the whole lot going to an overseas conglomerate in a few years makes me want to throw up!
As I wrote in the Weekly Times last week, as a young farmer carrying significant debt, I would be happy to take a pay cut to build a stronger co-operative. And there are plenty like me.
Co-ops have been seen as old school and behind the times, but then again it is human nature that ideas change, and most people will be found to have been wrong.
I will be lobbying the government agency in the coming weeks.
