If as you postulate, GV n co were working "...very hard until the very end", then I am very, very certain they (especially he) would have told us all about it!

GV as a blimp in, (or a blight on), one's investing lifeline could be likened to a Very light, brighter than a Vesey light, and far less illuminating.
