If you did some back of envelope maths (as no-one seems to these days before drawing weird conclusions) you might figure out that amount of oil will be saved in the first 10,000 km on renewables (or coal for that dirty matter).
Another piece of dubious maths you might like to check is the statement there that 1 kg of reduction in vehicle weight leads to 20% reduction in emissions??? Might suggest the driver goes on a diet.
I assume that article came from the infotainment section of some Murdoch rag?
