Please have it as a referendum in the next election. (yes im aware this probably wont happen)
I will dare to assume that the majority of Australians while having an opinion on issues such as gay marriage or recognition of Aboriginals would be far less motivated to take the time to vote on them. As someone falling into this category I would be happy to vote for my thoughts if presented to me during the next Federal Election.
I also think the Liberal party has dropped the ball by deciding to hold the vote after the election. If you needed any bigger way to make the Labor party look bad then why wouldnt you run all the way up to the election flogging that they dont care about the public opinion. Not that Labor need help to look bad but sheesh.. Dont look a gift horse in the mouth. Get a bipartisan agreement on the wording of the questions and include them both in the election. As an Australian taxpayer of 30 yrs im least impressed about cost of it all.
