Always a good question. Quality control, safety regulation and batch tracing all come with a cost. From my experience of product purchasing from China and other countries (for non med products) 9 times out of 10 you're fine. But every so often you'll get something dodgy, and you don't have any legal/compensatory fall back. This is partly why pharmaceuticals are so expensive in the developed world, they also need to cover the costs from unlikely but still probable, expensive compensation litigation when things go bad.
