"Australia has a population of 25 million & each year there are a few thousand boat asylum seekers"
------------------
When I went to school and university, a "few thousand" equaled approximately 2,000, give or take.
http://www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Parliamentary_Departments/Parliamentary_Library/pubs/rp/rp1314/QG/BoatArrivals
Asylum Arrivals by boat in 2012 = 17,204
Asylum Arrivals by boat in 2013 = 20,587
Benefit of the doubt - Has the definition of a "few thousand" changed? - is a "few thousand" now equal to 15,000-20,000? Is this what they teach in school these days? Then I guess we'd have to pass this off as pure ignorance.
Or, is this just an attempted 'porky pie'?
If so, 20,000/2,000 = 10
So I guess that must be 10 times bad karma.
