That's a good explanation, I was also thinking it also maybe due to price pressure from Tesla causing competitors to lower their prices. However, they can't as the battery material cost is too high for them. Hence, CATL made the incentive to lower their price for some EV companies. They are doing an Albermarle and using a portfolio approach across the pricing.

Weirdly, what the market is thinking is that if battery makers are lowering prices, then there is slump in demand. Everyone has been biching about supply not coming online in time etc.. No one questioned if demand is weakening due to ongoing high-interest rates. The moment supply gets in front of demand, there is a massive contraction in pricing. It will be short-term around 1 year before the supply-demand imbalance goes in the other direction.

My view is that demand will come from the rest of the world, especially from North America, and that would lead to a surplus of demand. Therefore, any price contractions are short and temporary. I could be wrong about the conclusion but what is interesting is the uncertainty surrounding lithium prices. Civilised disagreements are hard to find in this forum, so bring on the hate haha

Interested to hear any other thoughts
