PT PLN (Persero) Generator Management Director Adi Lumakso said the acquisition of the Sengkang PLTGU was carried out through a Preliminary Sale and Purchase Agreement (PPJB) on March 20, 2023 in Jakarta. "Through this buying and selling scheme, PLN will be able to contribute more to national electrification achievements. We believe PLN NP will be able to optimally manage the Sengkang PLTGU and maximize unit performance so that people in Sulawesi can enjoy bright, reliable electricity," he said, Thursday ( 23/3/2023). Main Director of PLN NP Ruly Firmansyah added, the transition process from PT Energi Sengkang (PES) to PLN NP would start from the signing of the agreement. He also ensured that the transition process would be properly monitored by PLN and PES. "Through this acquisition, we want to present a bright flame of electricity and encourage 100 percent electrification throughout Indonesia through the competency and capability of PLN NP in managing generating units," he said. Meanwhile, the Sengkang PLTGU was previously owned by an independent power producer (IPP) or a private company called PT Energi Sengkang. The PLTGU with a total capacity of 315 megawatts (MW) is located in Wajo Regency, Sengkang, South Sulawesi. This PLTGU has been operating since June 24, 2013. The signing of the power purchase agreement (PPA) between PLN and PES for the Sengkang PLTGU IPP was held on April 23, 1996. In accordance with the latest amendment, the PPA ended on September 12, 2022, so since then the Sengkang PLTGU has officially stopped operating. "This acquisition was also supported by the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities [SKK Migas] which stated that gas production in the Sengkang working area has been stalled since the Sengkang PLTGU ceased operations as of September 12," said Ruly. Ruly added, through this acquisition scheme, PLN NP through the Sengkang PLTGU can absorb gas supply from the Sengkang Working Area (WK) which is capable of supplying 40 million cubic feet per day, and can provide revenue to the state from the sale of gas as a fuel supply for the Sengkang PLTGU. . "After the implementation of this PPJB, the Sengkang PLTGU will officially become part of the PLN NP, which will then establish the PLN NP Generating Unit including human resources, organization, licensing and other related aspects," he added.
