They're probably not shorting PLS. They're taking profit on PLS to cover their shorts in other areas like A2M. The sell off has been industry wide and not limited to only PLS.
Theres only 2.2% of volume shorted on PLS so more than enough volume to close out those shorts... hence no spike in price.
