So does mining, processing, manufacturing, transport etc of all the thousands of ICE parts that EV motors will replace. The extraction, processing, waste and spillage of fuels for ICEs also causes polution, which cannot be substituted for solar, wind or hydroelectricity. Granted, yes, these also cause pollution but far less than their fossil fuel equivalents.

After their up to 1mil km life cycle, they can be recycled.
