Have no idea, except that he seems to be shorting (used to short GXY) PLS when LiCO3 prices are falling, and he tends to point to the LiCO3 price for justification (when he isn't bitch'n about crap management) so that might be his trigger. He also tends to site specific candle patterns at the start and the end as a kind of confirmation. When he has mentioned stop losses they have been on shorts and tend to be very tight, maybe 10 or 20 cents max. Like most "professional" short traders he seems to step down in increments, buy back, take a little look around than short another leg down. At the bottom somewhere he goes long and rides up. I suspect (without having any idea/experience of it) that when you are actively shorting stock there is a flow of data that indicates to you how strong the shorting is - probably something that gives you an idea of the availability of lending stock, and thus how strong the current shorting activity is. As that changes one might get a feel for how safe more shorting would be - but that is total guess work on my part as I can't do it through my broker. You could always try asking him directly. Who knows, he might answer!
