Monsieur Slick
You are exactly right in your post.
It also remains true that "average" and "median" are terms which are similar, and used
with a degree of looseness, with medians less prone to consider outliers in a series.
There are also multiple calculation methods for these, when smoothing formulae
are brought into the definitions. There is no one true answer, though certainly
some definitions are more popular than others, while all aim to serve
the one purpose of clarifying trends within volatility.
That said I have prepared a chart (with extreme haste and possible faults)
comparing the smoothed medians of PLS, 4 major banks and "the other mob".
I hope if there are data errors I will be excused for haste and a lack of
the meticulous data checking for which I normally aim.
If my figuring is anywhere near correct the reason for my intense
interest in PLS will be immediately apparent.
Unlike those who justifiably rejoice at "getting in early" my concern now
is the future, not the past ... just how long can this remarkable goose
continue laying its golden eggs ??
Just as the steam train and its successors replaced the horse and cart
I look forward at the end of a long life to EVs replacing ICE travel
and many other important applications for lithium and other
critical materials.
The slope of future trends will be fascinating to observe.
As much as anyone I hope lithium does not "run out of steam".
The evidence appears to indicate an interesting future.
What could possibly go wrong ?
It's a reasonable question, that in no way suggests a lack of enthusiasm.
Wishing a prosperous future, not least to my harsher critics.
The chart starts at $1,000 per stock on April 1st 2023
I look forward to the PLS blue median depicting future dividends
adding to the underlying green median. This is not my call.
Hopefully it will be achieved by a diligent innovate BOD.
None of this is presented as advice.
Future fundamentals are key.
Can the banks or the other mob do any better ?
This is where medians really shine in ensuring good truthful comparisons ?
