All shortman's graph represents is borrowed shares not returned as yet.

With recent three rollercoaster peaks and dips the shorters would be fools if they hadn't been buying along the way to lock in profits. First peak over 5.50 back to under 4.00 , Second peak over 5.00 back under 4.00 third peak over 5.00 and so far down to around 4.50.

A very simplified example Borrowed 100,000 shares sold at 5,00 then bought 120,000 at 4.00 , then sold 100,000 at 5.00 the bought 120,000 at 4.00. Then again sold 100,000 at 5.00 then bought in today 110,00 at 4.50. So I have been skimming some money and shares off the top along the way currently have 150,000 shares but I have yet to return the 100,000.

That 100,000 shares in my example have been only through 3 rinse and repeat cycles. It's a simplified example

Shortmans graph includes my 100,000 borrowing of shares as yet unreturned and I have in my pocket 150,000 shares. No sleepless nights here.

The shorters aren't fools, they would have been doing some accumulating.

They just haven't returned them as yet.

I have little doubt that some shorters are holding shares in excess of what they borrowed. Their shorting could be part of a long term accumulation strategy.

Have I over simplified? Maybe yes, but it gets the concept across.

Yes there are times when some of them get squeezed. Its depends on the selling entry point is, In each peak and dip cycle shorters selling just before the bottom of the cycle would have had sleepless nights if they hadn't skimmed shares and profits out of previous cycles. In any investing population there are the strong, the average and the weak.

So we are not going to see a rush of shorters entering the market to buy 1.4b worth of shares.
