It’s an interesting contest I agree.
If you look at when many of the shorts were opened, it was on the slide from $5 to $4, so even with the SP at $4.2 or even slightly higher, the shorts have the luxury of sitting back and just waiting to see how it plays out.
I think it would take a sustained push with decent volume above $4.5 to get the shorts to even second guess themselves
