I never paid any attention to index rebalance until @Trademoreper mentioned it last Friday and proved me wrong on the closing price. So I checked it out. And I found these:
It looks like the sp was pushed down relentlessly from 7 or 8 trading days prior to the finale in the auction when millions of shares were bought. Cheaply!
This year and last year were so similar. But not in 2022. I don't know why.
