I have to disagree re: deployment of EV's across Aus. Why would EV manufacturers continue to deploy cars in Aus where the gov't is still reasonably hostile towards EV's and charging infrastructure is still in it infancy?
Why wouldn't manufacturers target more established markets - where governments are more welcoming and charging infrastructure is more abundant?
The main reason every single person is invested in either hard rock mines in Aus, brines in south America all the way to DLE in Europe is because we all envisage a shortfall in the supply of these critical battery minerals over the coming few years.
My question is: with EV manufacturers supply lines constrained, why would they try and continue to divert stock to a market in Aus? My answer is they either won't or will reduce supply substantially (ie. look at Tesla atm: if you ordered a model X today - you'd have to wait till Jan next year - if no further delays as TESLA is famous for...). Why wouldn't they divert stock to more developed markets (as it seems they are currently)?
It's a reasonably simple equation: not enough lithium = not enough EV's to supply everyone who wants to buy - and for that markets in their infancy like Aus will continue to pay the price.
Lucky for investors in this space, Aus is such a minute market in the grand scheme of things, that delayed EV adoption here will not mean anything to broader sales targets.
I don't see EV adoption really hitting its strides in Aus till the end of this decade (possibly even later). Hence I bought the wife a new ICE vehicle at the end of last year.
