The explanation is simple. The silent majority has had enough of the bile that Jones has been spewing for years and decided to go on the attack. Jones then displays the classic bully/coward tactic of playing the victim and trying to blame others when it blows up in his face.
And do you seriously think he gives a toss about his audience other than the fact that it's you who've made him a fortune by being played for mugs. All he needs to do is tell you what you want to hear and whip you into a frenzy of outrage. Well, Alan the party is over and the public has found its voice. Welcome to the future.
And Carlton is right. Jones is not particularly smart. He just knows how to manipulate people.
