Using a 10% discount rate 2040 would contribute 12% of cashflow to an NPV. 2050 would add 4.5% of cashflow to an NPV value. It is basically irrelevant that far out purely based on discounting whether you believe it will be predominant tech or not. Therefore your point is pretty redundant.
However just look how long it has taken to even commence usurping oil. Do you really think we are going to get to 2040 (we might not even be 100% EV by then) and then change again? Inertia of Li Ion will be way to strong by 2025-2030. It's easily feasible to expect 50 years of Li use at least.
