many variables to your black and white statement. it depends how much free cash you have, your risk tolerance, age, cash flow etc etc investing (in part) in small caps has worked wonders for me over the years, as a diversified portfolio is key. nobody suggested investing all their bread and butter in speculative mining stocks. however, I'm personally not anywhere near retirement, otherwise I'd have wholeheartedly agreed with you.
