would take us all along that pathway ....except some issues still remain in that theory for some....
1. beneficial brokers own the shares not the trader
2. your broker limits the upper offer price for an online placement
3. somebody is still going to get hit if a 'at market' buyer comes along and u r next in the queue
4. after every purge you would have to place another order
5. if the price was going up and you did not cancel your sell order you will get hit

Generally I find it is better to look at why I bought a 'dud' company, or did not take profits when it was overvalued, than worry about the shorters (who did see it was overpriced). If shorters drive the price lower and the COY is good...the price will soon come back up. If the price stays down then the COY was prolly never worth that much to start with...and I made the wrong decision when I bought it.

I try to learn from that when it happens...and it does happen to me.
