Personally speaking, I have always liked, 'The Oracle of Omaha', Warren Buffet's own, sage advice, on these matters.

"Forever" of course, being a 'relative-term' that will always, depend upon things like any, 'fundamental, changes, in your chosen investment's circumstances', and, when, ..you, personally, finally decide, that ..you, finally, ..have-enough...!

Ohh, and another couple of things, that I would also say to any new 'investors' is, try to understand, that it takes ..time, to see your investments 'ripen' into a 'beautiful thing' and so, ..having ..patience, is a ..very important trait, to cultivate in oneself, and often, it proves to be the most difficult, of all, things, to do, for a lot of less-patient people. And, also, understand, that you, ..MUST, ALWAYS, DYOR, (Do Your Own [in depth] Research), rather than, just being, ..'one of the Flock' (of sheep) that constantly, simply get 'herded-around', and often, stampeded, by the 'master-stock-manipulators' of Wall St.
