Pluton presents at PDAC
by Mike Foley ? created Mar 09, 2011 12:53 PM
"Pluton Resources highlighted its engagement with Irvine Island?s traditional owners, the Mayala people, in a presentation this week at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference.
Irvine Island is the location of the company?s flagship iron ore project. It is at an advanced stage of exploration and pending environmental approvals, mining operations are expected to begin in 18 months.
Pluton?s presentation, A Blueprint for Cooperative Development, outlined how it came to terms with the Mayala in a native title agreement, where BHP Billiton and Portman Mining had failed before.
Irvine Island sits in West Australia?s remote Buccaneer Archipelago, some 200km north of Broome. Pluton has reported an inferred resource over 480mt and is touting a bright future for the pending export operations.
Key to Pluton?s presentation is the low impact focus of its operations, which was crucial to agreement with the Mayala. Irvine Island holds several significant sacred sites.
In recognition of this, Pluton developed a low impact drill rig for its exploration. The company?s employment program, another crucial factor in settling with the Mayala, is already achieving results.
For comprehensive coverage of Pluton?s operations on Irvine Island, see the March/April print edition of the AJM."
