I don't particularly like Laurie Oakes - as a journalist he has been around a long time and often seems to be biased or overly critical (as if he or anyone could have done better!) and to a degree a sensationalist and probably a hundred other things, but last night on telly he said that Rudd steered Australia clear of a recession and deserves credit for that.

Now a professor at a Uni says that the PM made it worse or whatever. There is very little SCIENCE to economics and anyone that says there is, is a fool. Economics is an empirical exercise in fortune telling at best.

BTW, I am sure the miners believe THEY steered Australia clear of the recession!
