This comment cannot be taken seriously because of the perilous nature of our foreign policy (from both sides of politics) associated with increasing US bases and that of the new one in WA that are designed to enhance US ability to wage wars in the Middle East and Asia and so we are pretty much cemented in by US foreign policy now. He also calls them a rouge state and I thought the Liberal Party was in talks to pursue uranium enrichment here?

    PM against Iran strikes
Posted Wed Oct 24, 2007 5:20pm AEST John Howard says his government is against pre-emptive strikes and will not be supporting any such action against Iran. United States Vice-President d!ckhead Cheney has issued another warning to Iran about its nuclear program, saying serious consequences will be imposed if it is not abandoned.
Mr Howard says Australia will not be supporting any military action against the rogue state. "We in Australia believe that Iran's challenges and Iran's transgressions should be dealt with diplomatically," he said. "We're not looking at pre-emptive strikes, we're not encouraging pre-emptive strikes, we're against them and we want diplomacy to continue."
Labor leader Kevin Rudd says that goes against what Mr Howard has said in the past about pre-emptive strikes. "He said a long time ago, in a famous interview with Laurie Oakes I seem to recall, that he favoured a doctrine of pre-emption and now he says something different," he said. "My challenge to Mr Howard is that if you're going to take responsibility for national security policy in this country, you've got to have a consistent policy." http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/10/24/2069398.htm
    New US base in WA
A visiting fellow at the Australian Defence Force Academy, Philip Dorling. The Melbourne Age quoted him as saying that once operational, “it would be almost impossible for Australia to be fully neutral or stand back from any war in which the US was involved”. Mr Dorling also pointed out that the base would present a military target
“We are appalled by the announcement that the Federal Government has secretly agreed to set up a new USA base at Geraldton, in WA”, Australian Anti-Bases Campaign Coalition National Coordinator Denis Doherty said.
The base, about 370km north of Perth, will control two of five geostationary satellites. It is to provide a critical link for a new network of military satellites to enhance US ability to wage wars in the Middle East and Asia. It will provide frontline troops with high quality intelligence information, graphics and maps. Building of the base may start within months. http://www.politicalaffairs.net/article/articleview/4892/1/242/
