IMHO the deal was stupid when it was first conceived like the $55 million dollars we paid Cambodia to take two (yes thats two) refugees
Who are the clowns that these deals originate with, what stupid bureaucrats thought they were a good idea
The only sensible solution to to say to these people "your flight back home is at 8 am tomorrow"
As to Trump it was not appropriate for Turnbull to ask Trump the question it was a job for the office staff to work out but Turnbull wanted to make political mileage out of it by proving that he has the power!
Did he not think that as the "agreement" was against Trumps stated policy that it would have been polite as a good friend to say if you are not happy with the deal we will cancel it to save any embarrassment.
It all just shows what most conservative supporters have known for a long time --- he should join the Labor Party, and he certainly should gracefully step aside and allow someone who can actually do the job to step up
