The most sensible suggestion, Prime minister, is to provide legislative oversight and a watchdog to keep the ABC in check, complete with penalties for continued breaches of impartiality guidelines.
The only media outlets that desperately require strict regulation are those paid for by us. They have Charters that are ignored daily. Free enterprise outlets like Fairfax, News or Southern Cross Media are free to take whatever editorial slant they want.
