I wish all questions were so easy to answer.
It's simple. The Tele, Fairfax, News, 2GB are all privately owned. They can take whatever editorial slant they want. The market will decide if it's the right one.
The ABC is a branch of the public service. I pay for it with my taxes. It has a Charter prohibiting political partisanship and bias.
That's why the ABC desperately needs regulation. I can choose not to buy the Australian or SMH but I have no choice not to pay taxes to support the ABC.
