    You're right as far as his popularity is concerned, but we should be concerned as to the reasons for that popularity.
    Maybe the happy memory of the $900 cheques?
    People are still looking at their new plasma TV's, perhaps and feeling grateful to Mr Rudd. They are not thinking about the debt which has to be repaid and which will involve either higher taxes or cutting of essential services

    And, without a doubt, the travails of the opposition sadly are enough to make pretty much any government look good.

    It will be interesting to see if the balance changes when parliament resumes. At least there will be some contrast between the extremely forthright Mr Abbott and the glib Mr Rudd.
