I suspect that there is a group of Traders who totally ignore what is going on in the real World and Trade solely on Chart Analysis ! failing to realize that the majority of Trends (up or down reversals) are initially triggered by an actual physical event. All well and good as long as Chartists recognize that they are in fact following a "second derivative" of the original data, ie they are following and reinforcing the pattern that was initiated by a real event ! Their trades may well be correct for 90% of the time and can to an extent become self fulfilling. (Herd mentality)

But unless they temper their trading pattern to account for "News/knowledge" they will certainly miss the big events. As in Poker you can often do well by following a standardized betting regime, but at the end of the day you will always end up behind a "Card counter" ie somebody who can incorporates knowledge into his playing strategy.
