My simple rules to live by.
1) Only buy companies with ridiculously massive upside that are massively undervalued when massively out of favour. Not the current fad, not the marginal projects. Ensure management know what they are doing, and whose work ethic is aligned with your lofty financial goals.
2) Buy on weakness til it hurts; diversification is for financial planners and managed funds. Then buy some more.
3) Jostle with people on Hotcopper to wean out the idiots early and to keep it interesting, but always look for intelligent dissenting views in case you are wrong.
4) Wait for herd to arrive.
