On the subject of donations, another area in which PolyNovo is helping out is in the poorer nations of the Asia Pacific.
Working with Interplast, PolyNovo sponsored five Interplast scholarship recipients (four from Fiji and one from Bangladesh) to attend the ANZBA annual conference in Melbourne last September in order to learn new skills and build networks.
One scholarship recipient is Dr Scott Buadromo, a Principal Medical Officer at the Labasa Hospital in Fiji, where he is currently undertaking his specialist training in Plastic Surgery and has been building experience in using (donated) Novosorb BTM.
Dr Scott Buadromo has said of BTM, “three trials in and we’ve seen very good results despite our conditions in Fiji being really challenging. We don’t have a lot of staff to keep an eye on a lot of dressings, we don’t have good sterile infection control situations, but these dressings have done well despite all that. It’s one of our trump cards in our arsenal of things we can deliver to our patients.”

Interplast sends teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to provide life-changing surgery and medical training in 17 countries across the Asia Pacific region.
We do this in partnership with local organisations, including hospitals, universities and local NGOs. Our mission is to ‘repair bodies and rebuild lives’ and we do this through providing surgical services to those who could not otherwise afford or access these, and by building the capacity of local medical systems through our training and mentoring programs.
Interplast is an accredited NGO with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), registered by the Australian Charities and Not For Profit Commission and is a signatory to the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) Code of Conduct.
