Kind of get where you are coming from but don’t necessarily fully agree. Yes the transparency on shorting is low and instos have an unfair advantage - definitely don’t disagree with this. But the unfair advantage is largely capital related and sophistication. The part about transparency on who the short seller is I don’t agree. In what environment does anyone disclose who they are at the exchange? When you me or anyone else goes long (or an insto for that matter) there is no disclosure except obviously if holdings go above or below certain amount as per disclosure rules.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t condone short selling and think it’s amazing - it’s irritating when it’s on a stock you own, but I do think it’s a valuable participant in the market and actually provides lots of opportunities to long investors.
