Shorting is a bet on the direction of a share price. I do not agree that it should be made illegal. I do not think it’s all nefarious - hence why I won’t sign your mates silly petition. Sure some might be unethical and illegal but so is pumping a stock and then selling out leaving someone else holding the pieces.
Continuously calling shorting manipulative I think is the equivalent of saying exuberant optimism or continuous run ups in share price which stretch valuations beyond where it probably should be or when people fomo pile into or longs pump up stocks is illegal too.
I’ll leave it at that as we clearly disagree on this one. No hard feelings - I enjoy a good debate
