    YES, you have nailed it, it is gambling, and gambling should be restricted to bookmakers and casinos.

    You cannot short a house
    You cannot short a motor car
    You cannot short artwork
    You cannot short land
    You cannot short boats and yachts

    All of the above are investments just like shares, so why are shares allowed to be shorted.
