Apologies shorting is betting (taking a view) on the downward direction of a security. Rather than betting it is going up you are betting it is going down. I assumed the dots would be connected on that statement.
Comparing Options to shorting is quite simply, wrong. Options can be used for many things on both sides of the markets. Long calls/puts, short calls/puts. Different market participants will do either of those things depending on what they’re looking to achieve. Options are more often used for risk management rather than taking a bet.
I like all you guys and enjoy the research and knowledge sharing on this forum, so don’t want to cause a commotion over nothing. Happy to agree to disagree. We all have our views. Apologies if mine don’t always align, I’m comfortable being the odd one out (the idiot) as others have deemed.
