And sorry, but that is exactly the ambiguous explanation I keep finding online - page, after page after page. It doesn't definitively state which one to use as the date for tax purposes. I eventually found one of those ATO forum questions/answer pages where an ATO person answered it was the contract date. Thanks though, enjoy your retirement.
