yes, the same happened to me. It's the date of the contract, not sale date nor settlement date. It doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. I argued with my accountant that OK if it's the contract date and not the actual sale date then how much do I owe (because you can't answer that question because the darn thing hasn't even got an agreed sale price yet!). It's totally ass about but that is the tax law
