It certainly is something I’ve suggested before but I don’t know if MTX is yet being used for this purpose. I suspect not.
More likey the product being used by the dentist was one of the other dermal matrices that are already used in this application. It's not uncommon for these products to be described as "synthetic" even though, strictly speaking, they’re not.
Integra has a “Helimend” pure collagen product (bovine sourced) for this application.
Alloderm Graft (made from donated allograft human dermis), now owned by Allergen, is another choice.
If you prefer pork, there’s Mucoderm.
Kerecis also has a product, Kerecis Gingiva Graft, made from fish skin of course. It was cleared for this indication by the FDA in 2020.
There are others available too, but they are also animal-sourced products.
