… At which point it became profitable to take a short position on this massively overvalued stock. And so the shorters made a killing at the expense of the people who had been scammed. The people who were scammed wondered if there was any connection between the people who manipulated the price up and the people who made a lot of money from it, but the regulators didn’t think so. “Nothing to see here”, they said, “Carry on - it’s all in the name of liquidity.” And we all live happily ever after.
