I have been in the outback for some days at the Birdsville races, where the population of that town grew from 150 to 7000. The Big Bash car rally was there also and a green tinge across that landscape was very evident from the rain event that went thru with more to come. All this far from the stock market, interest rate increases and inflation with the beer and wine flowing at campsites and many stories true and untrue were expanded upon. With a helicopter view of proceedings it appeared that no one really cared about the economy or falling prices on the stock market. The races were delayed by a day whilst two graders plied the sand and mud around the track to remove the wetness and make it good for racing. There in fact was a race between the graders and when they passed the finishing line neck and neck one won by a radiator cap there was a roar from the crowed, which had gathered to look on.
