Just my suggestion... ask your son to install Mint Linux for you. It's not that hard and with WINE it can be configured to look and feel like a previous version of Windows and will also run many of your previous versions of Windows 32bit programs seamlessly. It doesn't have or need any antivirus software and it can coexist with your current Windows setup while you get used to it. Just choose what you want at boot up.
