100% correct. this is done by fundies that want to start or topping their holdings. Do calculation like this
fund A want to own 10mil shares. If they buy all with SP 2.7 it will cost them 27 Mil. But if they borrow say 10% or 20% of that will cost them fee a little. Then they use that 1 or 2 Mil shares to sell bit by bit using their algo bots to drop SP to hit their target buy price. Say their target is 2.40 then when it hits 2.40 they buy 10Mil shares cost them 24Mil plus buy 2 mil shares they borrow to return them to the lender. This 10Mil short will give them little profit to offset or reduce their total cost...this how the share marker works and unforrtunately it is true and mosr retail traders got the burn because of their 'stop loss'. That is why I have posted few times we cannot win by playing catch up or short term. We can onlynbe successful invest long run like Warren Buffet...
